Bestival 2005

The Go-TeamBestival 2005 Still

CC-Lab was commissioned by Channel 4, Jack Daniels and Bestival to make a documentary about this year’s event.

CC-Lab worked with Rob da Bank to develop a documentary capturing the music and experience of Bestival, Sunday Best’s three night festival on the Isle of Wight in September.

Jack Daniels and Channel 4 commissioned the programme, and CC-Lab also created sponsorship bumpers for Jack Daniels.

Bestival is true to the Sunday Best ethos- music is important, but having fun is central to the event. CC-Lab developed a way of covering Bestival which would showcase some of the eclectic musical lineup, and also capture the other events: the world’s biggest fancy dress party, weddings and a funeral in an inflatable church, the WI tea tent, and the Bollywood Bar.

The documentary was soundtracked by the Bestival lineup, with music from Max Sedgley, the Dub Pistols, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, Super Furry Animals, Soulway, Royksopp and The Magic Numbers.

Performances were shot by up to five cameras, with an intimate, handheld feel, and intercut with narrative stories from around the Festival.

The documentary captured the spirit of Bestival, with eclectic music, eccentric characters and the beautiful setting of the Robin Hill Country Park.

Responses to the documentary from people who were at the Festival have been overwhelmingly positive, with many posts praising the documentary on the Bestival message board.

The documentary was executive produced by Jason Hocking and Justing Rees. Graphics were by Rob Jones. It was produced by Frank Lampen and directed by Kieran Evans. All post production was carried out in house at CC-Lab.
