The Nokia Isle of Wight Festival 2006

CC-Lab produced coverage of the Nokia Isle of Wight Festival for the third year running, with headline acts Foo Fighters, Coldplay and The Prodigy.

After the success of the previous two years’ coverage, Channel 4 commissioned CC-Lab to return to the Isle of Wight Festival and deliver more content for earlier transmission times. This year we produced 1×45’ show on Friday night and 2×90’ shows on Saturday and Sunday night.

Once again we set out to capture the spirit of the first festival of the summer with a combination of live performances, interviews and documentary features shot around the island and the festival.

Live performances were directed by Matt Askem with nine HD cameras. Three digibeta documentary crews shot material backstage and around the festival. Each programme was turned around for broadcast that same night, with five onsite edit stations putting the shows together, for broadcast live to air via satellite. The producers were Frank Lampen and Celia Moore and the executive producers Jason Hocking and Justin Rees.

This year the challenge was increased by the earlier transmission slots and longer programmes. On the final night of the Festival we had only half an hour from the time Coldplay were off stage until the show went on air with Coldplay in the first part.

Once again CC-Lab produced sponsor idents for Nokia, which were directed and post-produced in house.

The shows were very well received by viewers and the bands, and have been edited for international sales.
