In Search of the Beautiful Game
A series of five films commissioned by Nike as part of their World Cup Joga Bonito campaign which featured major football stars. The films were broadcast on Sky Sports 1 and screened in Odeon cineams as well as showing on Nikefootball.com and Sky bybroadband.
As part of CC-Lab’s work for Nike’s Joga Bonito campaign, we were asked to develop five short films around the core values of beautiful football.
The five films each centred on a star player, but put them in a situation which took them back to the fundamentals of football.
Wayne Rooney met Barry Durrant, a veteran footballer in his 60s still playing upfront every week. Wayne and Barry played crossbar challenge together at Manchester United’s Carrington training facility.
For the film about skill, Joe Cole went to swap tricks with the kids from Samba Street Soccer. Arsenal and Brazil star Gilberto trained with footballers from Streetleague. Robbie Keane played beach football with players from Sport Against Racism in Ireland, while Rio Ferdinand went to Rochdale to meet their kitman Jack Northover.
Each film also included interviews with other footballers and fans from right across the football landscape.
The films were broadcast five times each on Sky Sports 1 and screened at 14 Odeon digital cinemas nationwide well as showing on Nikefootball.com and Sky bybroadband.
All post-production, including grading, was carried out in house at CC-Lab.
